About ECE Department

Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) is a swiftly advancing field, with new ideas emerging at a rapid pace.

The department offers B.E. (Electronics and Communication Engineering) and M.E. programmes in VLSI Design and Communication Systems. This department has been approved as a Centre for Research by Anna University, Chennai.

The Electronics & Communication Engineering department was established in the year 2007 with an intake of 60, increased to 90 in the year 2008 and further increased to 180 in the year 2012. The department has well equipped laboratories, qualified and experienced staff to enrich the students with technical efficiency. The department prepares students for careers in this constantly evolving discipline.

To produce skilled, dedicated and research oriented Electronics and Communication Engineering professionals to face the technical and social challenges.

To impart state of art knowledge to compete in Electronics and Communication Engineering profession.

The embedded systems industry was born with the invention of microcontrollers and since then it has evolved into various forms, from primarily being designed for machine control applications to various other new verticals with the convergence of communications.

Opportunities

Embedded engineers write the software that controls the VLSI chips.To take up embedded software development as career, you need to have a working knowledge of C, C++ and Java, with some exposure to application software development.Embedded software is being developed using a variety of embedded and real-time operating systems, such as embedded NT, Windows CE and RTLinux. In addition, a variety of development tools and IDEs for C, C++ and Java are available

She started the session with a very interesting note by explaining about DSP PROCESSOR and its real time application. She explained DSP is a specialized microprocessor that has an architecture which is optimized for the fast operational needs of digital signal processing and the basics of digital signal processing theory to the students in a captivating manner, A Digital Signal Processor (DSP) can process data in real time, making it ideal for applications, which was very well liked and appreciated by all the attendees.

He explained about basics concepts of Electro Magnetic fields and its real time applications. This lecture received a high appreciation from the Second year ECE Students.

He explained how to draw layouts for analog VLSI circuits, to map the layout on to schematic and simulation for the layout design. The Certificates of participation were awarded to all the participants by the resource person and Head of the Department.

The chief guest started the session on a very interesting note by explaining the correlation between what we see on the display screen and how it is perceived by the human eye.
She highlighted the impact of Digital Image Processing techniques such as image enhancement, histogram, image subtraction, gray scale, windowing and also guided the students to build a MATLAB program convincing practical implementation of its theoretical knowledge. The students had an open interaction with speaker to clarify their doubts.

The Department is equipped with an excellent library catering the needs of UG, PG students, faculties and research scholars of ECE Department. The department library is well stocked with around 410 books and 10 magazines/Journals. Additionally, the department library also stocks laboratory manuals, PhD theses, and UG, PG project reports.
